Jasmine

Jasmine, a vase of jasmine flowers, by Bonfelle

Part of the Byzantine Saga·See the full series

Part of Odes to Peace·See the full series

Walk through Amman on a warm evening and the jasmine finds you before you see it: soft, familiar, and full of memory.

For some people, that scent means childhood. For others, it means Damascus, Nablus, Baghdad, and so many other cities they carry with them.

I painted these pieces because jasmine does something borders can’t. It reaches across them. In a world this divided, a single flower still reminds us how much we share.
